Hikes starting directly from the Parkhotel Tristachersee

Several varied hikes through East Tyrol start right from the hotel. Characterised by soothing tranquillity, crisp mountain air and an impressive array of colours. Walk to the Alten See & Hike to Lienz

Duration: approx. 1:30 hours
Distance: approx. 5.5 km
Elevation: ↓ 150 m

Just a few minutes’ walk from the Hotel Tristachersee, you’ll reach the idyllic Alten See, a peaceful spot that’s ideal for taking a breather. If you wish to continue, follow the path towards Amlach on a short hike to Lienz. The path is easy to walk and offers a relaxing stroll. For a more challenging alternative, try the Garnisonsteig. A hiking tour in East Tyrol featuring a narrow, partly steep path that also leads to Amlach via forest and rocky sections.

Hike to Kreithof & on to Lavant

Duration: approx. 2:30 hours
Distance: approx. 6.5 km
Elevation gain: ↑ 400 m

The steady climb to Kreithof begins on the eastern shore of Lake Tristach (approx. 45 minutes). At the top, you’ll find not only a cosy place to stop for refreshments but also a stunning view over the Lienz Valley. If you wish, you can continue the hike through East Tyrol to Lavant and its two churches, each with a special spiritual and cultural atmosphere. A harmonious blend of nature and East Tyrolean history.

Note regarding the Dolomitenhütte:
We do not recommend walking from the hotel to the Dolomitenhütte in East Tyrol. We strongly advise that you only travel there by car or by e-bike or mountain bike via the access road – it is the ideal starting point for the impressive hike to the Karlsbader Hütte.

Hike to the Kerschbaumer Alm

Duration: approx. 3 hours
Distance: approx. 7.5 km
Elevation gain: ↑ 700 m<

This hike takes you along varied alpine and forest paths up to the rustic Kerschbaumer Alm at around 1,900 metres above sea level. The path is steep in places but easy to walk on and is rewarded with magnificent views of the Lienz Valley. Once at the top, a cosy alpine hut awaits you, offering traditional delicacies and genuine East Tyrolean hospitality.

Panoramic hiking trail on the Hochstein

Duration: approx. 2 hours
Length: approx. 5.5 km
Elevation gain: ↑↓ approx. 200 m

Whether you take the mountain railway or make the climb yourself, high up on the Hochstein a stunning panoramic hiking trail unfolds, offering magnificent views of Lienz, the Schober Group and the Dolomites. This hike in East Tyrol is a leisurely walk and ideal for those who simply want to enjoy the scenery, families or photography enthusiasts who appreciate the special light found at high altitudes.

From the Dolomitenhütte to the Karlsbader Hütte

Duration: approx. 2:30 hours
Distance: approx. 6.0 km
Elevation gain: ↑ 600 m

The starting point for this hike in East Tyrol is the beautifully situated Dolomitenhütte, which is easily accessible by car or e-bike. From here, the well-marked trail leads steadily uphill into the heart of the Lienz Dolomites. The Karlsbader Hut is picturesquely situated on Lake Laserz and is a popular destination for mountain hikers and photographers. The backdrop of rugged rock faces and clear water is spectacular. In the Hohe Tauern National Park (more info), families, seniors and active hikers can enjoy impressive routes through unspoilt nature. Hiking in the Hohe Tauern National Park is one of the most wonderful experiences you can have on your hiking holiday in East Tyrol. Many starting points can be reached within 40 minutes. Those travelling without a car can take advantage of the hiking bus in summer, which serves various tour destinations. Some routes are on toll roads, so please don't forget to bring some change. Squirrel Trail on the Sillianberg

Duration: approx. 2 hours
Length: approx. 4.5 km
Elevation: gentle ups and downs

An ideal family hike in East Tyrol. From the Peisserhof in Sillian, an easy, shaded forest path leads through the Sillianberg, named after its animal inhabitants. On this peaceful trail through coniferous forest and clearings, with a little patience you can spot squirrels, deer and birds. Several rest areas along this family hike in East Tyrol offer beautiful views of the valley and are perfect for a picnic.

Themed trail to the Lienzer Hütte

Duration: approx. 3½ hours
Distance: approx. 7.5 km
Elevation gain: ↑ approx. 500 m

Starting from the Seichenbrunn car park, this varied family hike in East Tyrol follows the Debantbach stream via the Gaimberger Alm and Hofalm up to the Lienzer Hütte. Surrounded by impressive mountain scenery, families can experience a typical East Tyrolean alpine landscape. Along the way, information boards provide details about the flora, fauna and moors.
