Shopping, Cultural events or actionsports - Lienz offers a lot of possibilites
Visit the downtown Lienz and stroll through the pedestrian zone - you will quickly notice, this city has something very Mediterranean. And on Fridays and Saturdays, visit the Lienz city market and mix under the "locals". The market participants are proud of their products, which they create with a lot of diligence, ability and attention to detail.
This mighty castle complex was built by the Görz Counts in the 13th century.
The castle is run as a local museum and Albin Egger-Lienz-Galerie. In addition to this permanent exhibition, summer exhibitions developed from the extensive collections of the castle on history, art and culture of the district and beyond.

The excavation site shows finds from this Roman site, this ranges from fine ceramics to tools to technical devices. The museum is in constant changeover due to the ongoing newcomers, for the excavations a great protection was built, which also conveys an idea of the size and height of the original Roman atrium in the interior.
This exhibition shows natural and cultural history from the East Tyrolean region of the Hohe Tauern in the modern design.
Finds of cult sites and hunting spaces from the Stone Age, right up to the peasant forms of awareness for centuries to the present day, are made clear. The natural history part of the exhibition is also interesting. This includes the extremists in the high mountain flora and fauna as well as stories about animals that cannot be found in any textbook.
In the summer months, the traditional brass music concerts of the local music bands take place weekly, but modern jazz concerts also give the Dolomite City of Lienz an incomparable atmosphere on mild summer evenings. for further information click here
The street theatre festival Olala will take place at the end of July, then the downtown Lienz will again be colorful and rich in spectacular performances by international street artists.

Furthermore, the well -known Dolomitenmann takes place every September.
